2011 - B'Scout hull finished and ready for trailer

2011 - Finishing mast with bronze coin "bearings", HIN number stamped,
compass mount, hatch cover

2011 - Boom glue up, nicely cut scarf

2011 - Upper and lower mast sections. Aluminum tube will be used
to reinforce the connecting plate.

2011 - Dean is making a two piece mast which will be 21' in length.
Here he is planing the lower section of the upper mast to fit
into a piece of aluminum pipe which will also be fitted over the top of
the lower mast.

2011 - Here the rudder has been coated with a mixture of epoxy and
graphite powder.

2011 - Home made scarfing jig being put to use on the saw table to make
the pile of tiller parts laid out in second shot.

2011 - Here the rudder has been glassed (fiberglass cloth and
epoxy on both sides) this will keep the lead in place and encapsulate
the wooden rudder. The second picture shows the painted seats.

2011 - One coat of paint in cockpit and leeboard coated with
graphite/epoxy coating.
Dec 31 2010 -Prepping and sanding leeboard and rudder for
graphite/epoxy coating.
Dec 30 2010 - Deck being used as boatbuilder/painters work bench.
Susan again called to duty to finish glassing leeboard.

29 2010 - Dean lucked into some free lead for the rudder, a 100 year
old pipe fitting. You'll see two rudder blades below, the shorter
on is the one per plans which will now be used for my Toon2. Dean
based on reccomendations from other Mikesboat builders has made his
longer. Dean called me over the holiday with some inspiration
based on some chineese take out in an aluminum tray, which was used to
make the molds for the lead inserts for the rudders.. Leeboard
edges glassed and coated. Bottom picture more lamps used to help
cockpit paint dry.

28 2010 - One rudder cheek side is glued to center insert.

He is
making the rudder check to over both sides of the rudder blade, insteap
of just bolting to a single sided cheek.

Dec 4 2010 - Weather in North Carolina has been very cold for this time
of
year. Dean lounging on his seats fitted into Mikesboat. Bow deck
with hatch cutout.
Dec 3 2010 - Decks fitted for size.
Nov 28 2010 - Dean fiberglassing the bottom, so he can take his 65
pound lap dogs aboard.
Nov 19 2010 -great view of the mast step and partner on forward
bulkhead.
Nov 17 2010 - Heavy mast parterner bolted in place.
Nov 13 2010 - Mast step securely set in
place with epoxy filtes. Seat framing intalled Dean daydreaming
of adventures at the helm.
Nov 7 2010 - Flip crew sets the
Mikesboat right side up. Also see the fruits of the Susan's
labor, nice paint job.
Nov 5 2010 - Dean's better half Susan
putting on a coat of boyscout green to the Mikes boat. The power
plane makes short work of fairing the rudder.
Nov 1 2010 - The Three sided sprit
sail has arrived.
Oct 31 2010 - Happy
Halloween - and Dean's treat is a glued up upper mast.
Oct 30 2010 - Leeboard guard and pivot
bolt support epoxied in place.
Oct 28 2010 - the lee board is mounted on it's pivot point, and the
guard (slot not yet cut is fitted.
Oct 22 2010 - Here Dean is marking out
where the lee board gurad will be attached.
Oct 9 2010 - Dean is making a two part mast here he is routing
out some of the center of the lower mast to reduce weight.
Oct 8 2010 - Epoxy and graphite coats

Oct 5 2010 - Skeg cut, trimmed and fitted
Oct 4 2010 - Keel glued in place
Oct 3 2010 - The keel is glued into place with lots of
weights to clamp, the temp frame is removed once the tape/epoxy on the
outside joints are set.
Oct 2 2010 - Later that day - as I had suggested ;) Dean
applied tape to still wet outside joints for best adhesion. Also
purchased lumber for mast

I had the pleasure to spend the morning working with Dean to filet the
outside seams and help plan next steps with keel, skeg and mast.

18 2010 - Taping the inside seams, prep by cutting fiberglass tape,
filet the seams lay in tape, epoxy in tape.
Sept 17 2010 - Stitching in the blige panels, duct tape the seams, flip
the hull to filet and tape the inside seams.

straps to the bilge panels
